This digital finding aid will give you a general idea of the kinds of materials in the rest of the Gaming Collection.
Many men and women have gained renown as gamblers. Some have inspired biographers. This new program will house the corporate archives of major and minor gaming operators and manufacturers. Two of the world's largest gaming companies have already donated materials for their corporate archives. Learn more here. The Collection receives a number of financial reports, including equity research reports from fiscal analysts like Bear Stearns and Credit Suisse. The Collection also maintains files of 10-K and 10-Q forms of major casinos and gaming companies, including Argosy Gaming, Aztar, Harrah's Entertainment, Park Place Entertainment, Mandalay Resorts, MGM Mirage, Station Casinos, and others. The files are open to public viewing. In keeping with its mission to offer researchers a range of resources which cover the social and cultural aspects of gaming, the Collection maintains a sizeable collection of literary efforts with gaming and gambling themes and settings. Government Documents The Collection has documents from a number of regulatory agencies, including the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, and numerous federal gaming reports. Gambling Guides and Handbooks; Gambling Systems The Collection has a wide range of guides to playing a number of casino games, including blackjack, craps, poker, roulette, and many others. Of course, any truly successful gambling system would make its inventor so wealthy that he/she would not have to sell the system to make ends meet. The Collection has several manuscript collections from both individuals and companies. Special Collections has over 1300 oral histories on various topics and of varying quality. A number of them deal with gaming issues and many are not transcribed. Pamphlet Files The massive pamphlet files contain clippings, press releases, and reports on a wide range of gaming subjects. A subject index is available in Special Collections. Periodicals File The Periodicals File consists of roughly 1000 articles culled from newspapers and magazines indexed by title and author. The Collection has the world's most complete selection of English-language periodicals and serials about gambling. Click here for a list of titles. Special Collections is a repository for historical photographs of almost all Las Vegas casino hotels. In addition, many casinos around the world have photographs in their promotional files. An alphabetical subject index is available for browsing in Special Collections. Some people have even written gambling poetry. Popular Books The Collection includes books published by nonacademic presses on gambling, including journalistic and investigative accounts. Publicity and Promotional Materials: Historical The Collection maintains containing press releases, newspaper clippings, newsletters, and other types of promotional material from over 150 casinos, regulatory agencies, and other organizations. Publicity and Promotional Materials: Active The International Casino Public Relations and Promotional Archive is an active collection, featuring material from virtually every major casino property and manufacturer in the United States. Scholarly Monographs The Collection collects all scholarly monographs published about gaming and gambling.
