Design Approach/Narrative: The new two-story, 60,000 sf office building for the State of Nevada, Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation, (DETR), is designed to bring together several departments, scattered throughout the Las Vegas Valley in various facilities, as well as provide for anticipated future growth of the department.

The project boasts LEED Silver Certification design, however will not file for certification. Natural daylighting, drought tolerant landscaping, and energy conservation are key design features. However, this building design goes beyond tradition for Nevada and the first of its’ kind. The design incorporates raised access flooring as a means for delivering voice, modular data and power to maximize flexibility of workspaces and underfloor air technology is expected to improve indoor environmental quality, reduce construction and operating costs, and boost productivity by giving the occupants greater control over their environment and their thermal comfort. In addition, the building is situated to preserve the magnificent mountain views to the east and is located back from the street in a park-like setting incorporating walking paths around the campus and connection to other State buildings in the area.
