It's Time for the Architectural Sociology Student Project Presentations!
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Lucchesi Galati is again graciously hosting the team project presentations created by the students of the Architectural Sociology class at UNLV, taught this year by sociologist Dr. Ron Smith, UNLV VP for Research and Graduate College Dean; and Allison Proctor, Architectural Sociologist at Lucchesi Galati.

Please join the fun of viewing and critiquing these interesting presentations, which combine architectural design and sociological theory to explore the ways in which architecture and human behavior influence one another! Food and beverages will be supplied for this event. This year's teams and topics are:

Team NIMBY: Can low income housing design change the negative attitudes of people who don't want such housing in their neighborhoods?
Team Goffman: How do people use the design elements of New Urbanist architecture to manage the impressions they make on others?
Team Passing the Buck: Does Starbucks' architecture still support its mission as a "Third Place"?
Team Preserve: How has the Springs Preserve affected Las Vegas' identity?
Team Welcome Wagon: How much does neighborhood design influence attitudes and behaviors of "community"?

WHEN: Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: "Town Square" at the offices of Lucchesi Galati
500 Pilot Rd, Suite A, Las Vegas, 89119
RSVP: 702 263-7111 or aproctor@lgainc.com
( Please RSVP by April 29th, 2008)

Please support our aspiring sociologists, architects and architectural sociologists by asking questions and offering thoughtful critiques.
We hope to see you there!

A Collaborative Architecture Review Monday (May 1st) 8:30-12:15

Assistant Professor Glenn NP Nowak along with students from AAE 282-Fundamentals of Architecture II would like to invite members of the university to visit proposals for interdisciplinary collaborations conceived by students working together across departmental boundaries.  Their designs explore new architypes built for the sole purpose of enabling their idealized interactions.
The work will be on display in the second floor gallery of the PaulB.Sogg Architecture Building Monday morning.  Please feel free to join them!  Questions and/or comments may be directed to glenn.nowak@unlv.edu
