Project description/narrative:

Talaverde Open Space Park in Summerlin, Nevada
A focal point opposite the entry of a 20-acre parcel, this quarter-acre open space park is nestled in the heart of The Vistas of Summerlin. Dramatic elements such as rockery retaining walls, aesthetic berming and terraced planters help soften the steep incline at the back of the park. Decorative hardscape in the form of stamped concrete paving with integral colored slate banding is the destination the user encounters after traveling a meandering and narrowing concrete path. Site furniture included a birdbath, a pet waste station, colorful metal benches, chairs, tables, and trash receptors. An optional spray geyser water feature at the center of a spiraling concrete pattern was designed and plumbed for future use. Varying height seatwalls and a bench swing mounted on an architectural wall cutting into the slope allowed the park users to relax and enjoy the scenery of kids at play and the surrounding xeriscape. Although small in size, this park has been well used by the surrounding community and is a dramatic focal point upon arrival to the development.
