As the first UNLV Architecture Studies Librarian I established and developed the full range of academic library services for architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and interior design, including reference, instruction, liaison, and collection development. I brought the initially small collection up to accreditation standards, prepared numerous guides to library use and holdings, developed a one-credit lower division course on library/research/communication skills, and taught graduate courses in research methods in cooperation with architecture faculty. I developed a building program and worked with architects in planning a new branch library facility, opened in 1997 in the new architecture school complex. I hired and trained staff and students workers for the branch, and set up policies and procedures for library operations.
I have achieved visibility for Architecture Studies Library services through a variety of means including newsletters, a library committee, speaking to student groups, attending architecture faculty meetings, assisting in architecture department projects such as setting up an Internet site, sending regular emails to full and part-time faculty, serving on the School's curriculum committee, and conducting surveys of students and faculty. I continue to work with the School of Architecture faculty to incorporate instruction into the curriculum and have developed a series of online tutorials. I worked with the Las Vegas AIA to establish an archive of Nevada Design Awards.
As leader of the UNLV Libraries' Assessment Committee I worked to implement a standardized suite of statistics and an annual report format to be used throughout the Libraries, instituted posting of annual statistics [intranet] and survey results [extranet] on the web and contributed to the development and analysis of patron surveys. I have planned and implemented library wide assessment activities, such as the LibQual+ survey and focus groups, analyzed results, and shared findings at library wide meetings.
As half-time Assessment Librarian for the Libraries I oversee a pilot implementation of ETS' iSkills standardized test to evaluate student gaps in information, communication, and technology skills. I have also worked with the Collections Manager on collections assessment, the HR Manager in developing and analyzing an Employee Pulse Survey, the Usability Committee in setting up usability tests to evaluate web navigation, and the Instruction Department to assess instruction efforts. I have developed a data matrix showing data required by various bodies or individuals. I have worked with the Dean to develop an Evaluation Framework that applies to both the Strategic Plan and Assessment projects. I started an assessment blog and set up an Assessment and Data page on the staff wiki. I am also part of the campus Assessment Committee.
