Because Alexandra has been engrossed with the chicks Fletcher thinks that Alexandra doesn't love him any more. After consulting his friends Beaver and Otter, they decide that they way to make Alexandra love Fletcher again is to have Fletcher hatch out of an egg, so Beaver and Otter construct one around him. Meanwhile, Alexandra is upset because Fletcher is missing. The next day, Beaver and Otter place the "egg" in town where it is discovered. A crowd soon gathers and Alexandra is among them. Fletcher can hear her crying, bursts out of the egg and they are reunited.
