SummaryPinduli is a baby hyena. Her mother tells her that they need to go hunting for food and to stay close. Pinduli goes off and spots a pack of wild dogs. The dogs come by and make fun of her big ears. She becomes self conscious and tucks her ears down. Then she encounters a lion who points out that she has straggly hair. Pinduli decides that she should get into the water hole to help her hair lay flat. She comes in contact some zebras who point out that her stripes are not up to par. Pinduli then decides to roll in some pale dust to cover up her stripes. Pinduli now realizes that her adventures have taken her far away from home and that her mother must be wondering where she is. She starts off back home. One her way she runs into the dogs, the lion, and, the zebra. They think that she is a ghost because of her pail white coat. The dogs assume that she is a spirit come to punish them for making fun of a young hyena earlier that day. Pinduli plays along and ask the dogs why they would make fun of someone. The dogs say that they made fun of Panduli because a fox had insulted them earlier. The story is the same for the lion and the zebras. Pinduli instructs the dogs, the lion, and the zebras to go ask the ones who insulted them why they had. She also says that from now on they must leave a portion of their meals as an offering to the great spirit. The dogs, lion, and zebras find out that the ones that insulted them were also insulted and were passing along the hurt they had experienced to others. Pinduli finally gets back home to her mother and gets cleaned up. She tells the story to her mother and from now on, they enjoy the offering left by the other animals.
