Hello, everyone. My name is Kevin Sebastian and I'm the Teaching and Learning Librarian for Online Education here at UNLV. Welcome to this short lesson on how librarians can support your research.
As librarians, we can help you develop a research plan, we can help you refine your topic, and we can help you find sources for your paper.
And you can get in touch with us in lots of different ways: you can email us directly; you can schedule a consultation; and you can even live chat with us.
Now, let me show you how you can do a few of these things. Once you're on the UNLV Libraries website, you can contact your librarians.
Let's talk about how you can chat with one. On the library's home page, there's a red box on the lower right corner called our Ask US button. Click there and you'll be sent to our FAQ [frequently asked questions] page. Here you can click the Click to Chat button, which opens up a new window where you'll be able to type in your question. And the librarian will be with you shortly.
Now let's learn how to schedule consultations from the library's home page. Click the Meet with a Librarian icon. On the next page, you'll see a list of all of our awesome librarians.
For English 102 students, we made a convenient link that shows librarians who can help you with your writing projects.
If you want to meet in person, make sure that you've got Lied Library toggled. Then choose a date and time that works for you. If you want to meet virtually, choose Virtual Consultation in the dropdown.
Once your window refreshes, click on English 102 and choose a date and time that works for you and hit continue.
You'll be asked to fill out a form with your information, and since this is a virtual consultation, make sure that your email address is correct because this is where we will be sending the virtual meeting information.
Once you fill out the form, click Confirm Appointment and you'll be receiving an email about your consultation. So make sure to check your inbox.
To summarize, librarians can help you develop a research plan, refine a topic, and find sources.
You can reach out to us via chat and email, and you can meet with us for a one-on-one research consultation.
And remember, you're not alone when it comes to research. Always feel empowered to reach out to librarians for support.
