Neysa Davis Tonks was tragically killed in the October 1, 2017, mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. To honor her memory, Neysa’s parents, Chris and Debbie Davis, along with her sister and brother-in-law, Mynda and Freddy Smith, established an endowment. This endowment supports one of our Flora and Stuart Mason Undergraduate Peer Research Coaches each year.
The Mason Peer Coach program, created by UNLV University Libraries with the generous support of Flora and Stuart Mason, recruits highly motivated first-generation college students from underrepresented ethnic groups. These students are trained to serve as library ambassadors. Peer Coaches contribute to on-campus student learning by co-teaching English 102 Library Instruction sessions alongside library faculty, as well as participating in other important projects.
The family hopes the endowment helps Neysa’s light continue to shine and carry forward her passion for mentoring and helping others.
