Grazing," and a photo of Grace W. Byrne. A note with this collection
indicates that Grace Winkleman Byrne wrote for the Las Vegas Sun,
Las Vegas Review Journal, and the Henderson Pages, and that she
founded the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.

Collection consists of scrapbooks containing the complete run
of Al Cahlan's "Where I Sit"
newspaper column that he wrote for the Las Vegas Review Journal
from 1930 to 1968. Al (A.E.) Cahlan was the editor of the Las
Vegas Review Journal for many years and active in the Nevada Democratic
Party. He was also active in Las Vegas civic and community affairs.

(Jones) Cahlan worked as a reporter for the Review Journal and
Cahlan served as editor for many years. The collection contains

articles and manuscripts , and drafts and notes for their book
Water -- A History of Las Vegas. Subjects include Nellis AFB,
Nevada American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, Las Vegas
Jubilee, high-speed ground transportation, Service League/Junior

Hank Greenspun was the publisher of the Las Vegas Sun and wrote

is comprised one box of photographs documenting the first Gay

Las Vegas Bugle stories focusing on gay issues.

Collection consists of Celesta Lowe's clippings, published writings
("Echoes from the Archives" and "Southwestern Bookshelf"

Celesta Lowe grew up in Goodsprings and worked for James R. Dickinson,
who was the first head of Nevada Southern University (later UNLV).
She played a large part in developing the Special Collections
Division of the library.

This collection contains the family papers of Las Vegas pioneers
Charles "Pop" Squires (editor of the Las Vegas Age and
member of the Colorado River Commission) and his wife, Delphine,
who helped found Christ Church Episcopal and the Mesquite Club.
The Squires Papers concentrate on the Las Vegas years (1905- 1964),
although there is some material from earlier periods. The Civic
interests series contains miscellaneous items relating to early
life in Las Vegas (1905-1958). The Manuscripts series contains
book and short story manuscripts, articles, press releases and
radio scripts written by Squires and his wife. The Correspondence
series reflects the period 1910-1958 (many letters relating to
his work on the CRC including some from President Herbert Hoover)
with a few items dated earlier. The Family series contains items
related to family life such as report cards, certificates, Parent
Teacher Association, club activities, news clippings, and church
activities. These items cover the years 1887- 1951. COLLECTION
