The TDRL Young Adult Fiction Collection includes fictional chapter books written for a young adult audience (typically grades 9-12). Genres include contemporary fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, novels in verse, in addition to other fiction sub-genres.
Young adult fiction can be distinguished from other works of fiction based on reading complexity, protagonist age, and themes that are developmentally appropriate for the targeted age group.
Young adult fiction titles are included in the TDRL collection for educational purposes including curriculum application, reader identity development, bibliotherapeutic uses, and to promote the love of reading.
The TDRL strives to create inclusive collections which reflect a wide range of stories, settings, and topics relevant to the diverse identities and needs of the P-12 students in our communities.
NOTE: Older young adult fiction titles may be included in the juvenile fiction collection at this time.
